PageRank

Google has a system of ranking websites based on their appearance...but behind the scenes. In order to start generating some traffic to your website the best alternative is to try and rank high on Google or other search engines for a keyword. The best way to do this is to

1) Gain backlinks to your website

2) Update your content as frequently as possible

(These methods are explained in greater detail here).

Google rates websites based on how frequently content is updated, and how many back links are going directly to the site from other websites. This shows Google that you are a well talked about website and should deserve to rank higher than other websites. The advanced mechanics behind how Google rates websites is unkown, but basic findings and other research has led to these possibilities as to how Google's algorithms work when decididing to place websites in different places. PageRank is rated on a scale from 1-10, to check and see if your website has a page rank you can go to: http://www.prchecker.info/check_page_rank.php.

Google updates PageRanks about once every 3 months, so don't expect your Page Rank to change over night. Put in some hard work and dedication on building back links and marketing your website or blog to achieve exceptional growth and watch your PageRank grow as well.
